Palm Beach Sailfish Classic Recap

The Palm Beach Sailfish Classic wrapped up a few weeks ago on November 20th. The event was a great success with 16 boats fishing for two days and releasing a total of 124 sailfish and 1 blue marlin. All proceeds go to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and in the last 11 years the Palm Beach Sailfish Classis has helped make 55 wishes come true!

You can read our article here for more details about the event, the charitable giving, and the sponsors of the tournament. As a reminder, fish caught on live bait are worth 200 points while fish caught on dead bait are worth 300 points.

On day 1 the boats enjoyed great conditions and hot fishing. The daily jackpot was one by The Vintage with six releases, all caught on dead bait for a total of 1800 points. The Martha D also had 1800 points but The Vintage earned their points faster. The third place boat on day 1 was the Doing It All with 8 sailfish releases on live bait worth 1600 points.

On day 2 the winds picked up and the boats had to contend the elements a little more but the bite also seemed to pick up a little. The battle for first place was neck and neck all day. Ultimately Captain Mark Lamb on the Doing It All took the daily jackpot with 1 releases on live bait worth 2800 points. Doing It All finished with a tournament total of 22 releases on live bait for a total of 4400 points. They narrowly beat out The Martha D and Captain Scott Fawcett who released a total of 14 sailfish on dead bait for a total of 4200 points. Third place was taken by Captain JC Cleare on the Hellreyzer who caught 7 fish the second day for a total of 14 fish caught on live bait and 2800 points.

The biggest news might have been made at the awards banquet where 16 year old Eric Perna was awarded top junior angler AND top overall angler with 7 sailfish caught. The top lady angler was won by Mary Rose Boblin with 4 releases. The top meat fish was a 21.8 lb Dorado caught by Lev Mullins.
