The Vince Lombardi Trophy is just shy of two feet tall, weighs about seven pounds and symbolizes the epitome of football success when presented to the Super Bowl champion each year.
For the fifth time since 2002, the trophy currently resides at the home of the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass. Similar to the NHL’s Stanley Cup (which is massive, in comparison), the Lombardi Trophy sometimes is taken to promotional events for fans to see.
During an event on April 1 in Bangor, Maine, the team official toting the trophy hit a deer with his vehicle. Ugh. That stinks. No one wants to hit a deer, especially on a cold evening in Maine while in possession of the Lombardi Trophy.
Maine State Police officer Tyler Maloon didn’t know that the official and a companion had the trophy with them until they began mentioning they had to get “the trophy”…
