Making Wishes Come True During the Season of Giving

Team Fin & Field was on the road again this past weekend to lend our support to the 10th annual Palm Beach Sailfish Classic which raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. In the first 9 years of the tournament they’re raised over $300,000, granted 44 wishes and provided support to organizations such as The Billfish Foundation as well as scholarships for local high school students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the maritime industry.

This year 19 teams competed in the catch and release event, releasing 99 sailfish over 2 days of fishing. The weather god’s cooperated and the bite was strong with a few boats reporting 20+ bites. Teams competed for points with 200 points awarded for a sailfish caught on live bait and 300 points for sails caught using dead bait or lures. Top honors went to the team aboard Rally Cap with a total of 2,800 points. Runner up and third place honors went to Boneshaker and DeBaitAble with 2,400 and 2,200 points respectively.

PBSC Jordan

While the boats were on the fishing grounds the action around the docks was focused on supporting Make-A-Wish recipient, Jordan Ruelle-Lees. Jordan suffers from a genetic disorder that requires him to receive blood transfusions every few weeks to maintain his health. Tournament officials coordinated with the team from OneBlood.org and their Big Red Bus to facilitate blood donations at the event. If you missed the event, it’s not too late to make a difference for Jordan or others in need of blood. Look for a nearby donation location at OneBlood.org or check for centers at the Red Cross.

PBSC Sponsors

A giant thanks to tournament director, Pat Ross, and all of the sponsors and participants who helped make the 10th annual Palm Beach Sailfish Classic a success. We can’t wait for 2016!
